I grew up attending local dance schools, and then left home aged sixteen to dance with Ballet Theatre Afrikan in Johannesburg. After two years training and performing with the company I returned to England to start university. I graduated from the University of Winchester in 2012 with a 1st Class Honours degree in Choreography and Dance (combined with Journalism). The course covered contemporary dance but I kept up my ballet training and spent the summer of 2011 performing with Canadian Pacific Ballet on Vancouver Island.
My first teaching job was at Highfield and Brookham Schools on the Hampshire / Surrey border. I started as a Saturday ballet teacher whilst still at university, but soon found myself at school everyday, and stayed for seven years. I really enjoyed preparing pupils for exams, school shows and festivals. Alongside teaching, I performed with the Chelmsford Ballet Company, travelling to Essex for week-end rehearsals. My favourite production with the company was The Sleeping Beauty where I was one of the Fairies and also understudied the role of Princess Aurora. It was amazing to work on repertoire that is so iconic.
I am qualified with the IDTA (2014), and have also completed the Cecchetti DDI (2018). I am a Mutually Appreciated Teacher with the RAD and an Affiliated Teacher with the ISTD, allowing me to enter pupils for exams. I am DBS checked, first aid trained, and have dance teacher’s insurance.
